Alamo Heights ISD to migrate student system to Skyward; registration will be paused in March

Brian Grenier, presenting on student information systems, told the District Education Advisory Council that Alamo Heights ISD will migrate from PowerSchool to Skyward and will consolidate communications on ParentSquare.
Grenier said ParentSquare will bring classroom, school and district communication into one app and will be piloted at Howard and the junior school after spring break. "We're getting all of our communication essentially on one platform," he said.
On the student information side, Grenier said the district selected Skyward because of improved internal workflows, stronger vendor support and cost savings. He described a substantial consulting and configuration phase that began in the fall and said the implementation team will take a snapshot of the existing database on April 1 to begin the migration process.
Most notably for families, Grenier said online registration for the 2026–27 school year will be shut around March 1; families should expect to re‑enter or upload residency and registration documents into Skyward when online registration reopens toward July. He warned that some elementary course records will not migrate and will need to be rebuilt, while high school courses will be moved over. "Once data gets migrated over, they're gonna do a big migration of demographics in June," Grenier said.
The district plans an intensive training program: Grenier reported more than 80 scheduled sessions (webinars and on‑demand materials) and some face‑to‑face training, with timing tied to state submission deadlines so staff receive instruction when they need it. He stressed this will touch nearly everyone in the district — teachers, clerks, principals and families — and asked for community patience during the transition.
Grenier also said Skyward and ParentSquare would work in sync and that the move is expected to save the district money over time; he noted one year of PowerSchool costs roughly what three years of Skyward would cost. The district did not announce specific contract terms or exact dates for full rollout beyond the April snapshot and summer demographic review.
