Alamo Heights ISD to replace decade-old website with accessible, mobile-first platform

Janine Matonis, the district’s director of communications, told the District Education Advisory Council that Alamo Heights ISD will replace its website with a new vendor platform intended to modernize the district’s “digital welcome mat.”

Matonis said the current site has not seen a full redesign in more than a decade and that the new platform will emphasize accessibility (screen-reader compatibility and color contrast), mobile responsiveness and a stronger brand presence for prospective families. She said some school and program pages will be migrated as-is, while others will be rebuilt to remove inaccessible PDFs and images that screen readers cannot parse.

The communications director walked the group through a mockup of the proposed front page and said the migration for the district site would begin the week of the 11th, with a target to launch in mid‑June and the current site scheduled to be taken down on 2026‑07‑01. Matonis asked advisory council members to complete a brief survey and provide feedback on what content they use most so the team can prioritize what to move and what to redesign.

Matonis said web teams will focus initial work on the high school because of its complexity, then migrate other campuses. She also described plans to test the site with stakeholders before launch and to train additional users as the site nears completion.

The district plans to reduce reliance on decentralized Google sites for program pages where content is not officially district-managed and to avoid placing core information in inaccessible document formats when possible.

Matonis closed by asking council members to share contact information for follow-up and invited them to participate in testing and feedback as the team finalizes the design.
