The Lebanon City Council on Feb. 9 voted to begin a 30-day public comment process to rename a portion of Elm Street/Mill Creek Road to "Route 66." Troy, a city staff member, described the resolution as the formal declaration of intent and said the city is following state law for street-name changes.
Troy said the city will work with the U.S. Postal Service on name-change logistics and noted that businesses would not be required to change their mailing addresses; he said signage and other adjustments would be coordinated with property owners. "This starts a 30 day public comment process," Troy said, and the council will likely revisit the item at the second meeting in March for final action based on public input.
Council members approved Resolution 26-6 by roll call.
Next steps: staff will publish the 30-day public comment notice and return the item to council for final consideration after the comment period.
