The Kiel City Council on Jan. 27 unanimously approved a comfort resolution reaffirming the city’s commitment to Great Lakes Utilities.
A staff member told the council the packet contains a cleaned-up version of the resolution and that approving the document now would not require any immediate city funding. "This is a comfort resolution for Great Lakes Utilities," the staff member said, adding the measure "extends our commitment to them." Councilmember Broker moved to approve the resolution and Adrian seconded. Roll call votes from Crump, Hill, Broker, Kroger and Bakker were all recorded as yes and the motion carried 5–0.
The packet, the staff member said, includes the full text of the resolution and the version presented was edited to include the proper language. The staff member also told the council the resolution does not obligate the city to spend money if the associated project does not move forward.
The council did not record further debate on the resolution during the meeting. The next procedural item on the agenda was a separate capital purchase for the utilities department.
