Board approves personnel, policy updates and a 7–11 real property advisory committee

The Palm Springs Unified School District Board of Education approved a slate of action items at its Feb. 10 meeting, including personnel transactions, policy updates, new middle-school course descriptions and the formation of a real property advisory committee known as the "7–11 committee."
The board approved certificated and classified employee transactions (16a), a revised counselor job description (16b), a new mobile communication devices board policy BP 5131.8 (16c), and new middle-school course descriptions for the 2025–26 school year (16d) by voice vote.
On item 16e the board adopted resolution No. 25 26-22 authorizing formation of a real property advisory committee to advise the board on disposition of vacant/unused district land pursuant to California Education Code section 173870. District staff explained the committee will consist of "no less than 7 members and no more than 11," and should include nominations from the business community, landowners and renters, teachers, administrators, parents, students and subject-matter experts (environmental impact, legal contracts, building codes). "Basically, it's a committee that's composed of, no less than 7 members and no more than 11," district staff told the board.
The board also approved expulsion case 202526-022 after motion and second (16f) and voted to approve the superintendent's consent items (17a–17g). Several information items (first readings and revisions to BP/AR language on instructional materials complaints, suspension and expulsion due process, and ceremonies and observations) were presented for future consideration.
Board members asked how nominations would be solicited; staff described outreach via principals, ParentSquare messages, the district's Citizens' Oversight Committee (COC) and word-of-mouth. Staff noted a prior committee had expired and a new membership roster is required.
The board recorded voice votes of "Aye" on the approved items; no roll-call tallies were provided in the transcript. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 24, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
