Director of secondary curriculum Dr. Deanna Killian presented a live analytics homepage and student trackers to monitor A–G completion and graduation readiness; she reported a senior-class A–G snapshot of 54.49% (Jan. 16) and described counselor outreach, ParentVUE/CaliforniaColleges.edu access, and winter intercession for grade recovery.
The Palm Springs Unified School District on Feb. 10 received an academic update from Dr. Deanna Killian, director of secondary curriculum and instruction, on systems used to monitor A–G completion and graduation outcomes.
Dr. Killian said the district uses a live analytics homepage and student trackers so principals and counselors can see "live data, so there's constant monitoring in the moment." She reported a district senior-class A–G snapshot of 54.49% as of Jan. 16 and said that counselors use a student tracker to identify students who are off-track and document outreach in the student information system (Synergy).
On family outreach, Killian said a letter about academic fitness and A–G awareness was sent Jan. 12 and the same report is uploaded to ParentVUE; families can also access the information at CaliforniaColleges.edu (part of the California College Guidance Initiative). When asked whether counselors contact families directly, Killian said, "Unequivocally, yes," and described email, phone and documented student conferences as part of standard practice.
Killian also described interventions: winter intercession (about 450 students participated across traditional high schools and Mount San Jacinto) for D/F recovery, planned spring intercession, family FAFSA/college nights and professional development modules developed with the Riverside County Office of Education. She acknowledged areas for growth and accepted a board challenge to increase the frequency of family notifications beyond the semester cadence.
Board members asked for demographic breakdowns and access metrics for ParentVUE; Killian said demographic data and additional breakdowns are available and offered to provide follow-up information in a Friday letter.
The board did not take formal action on the presentation but discussed potential next steps to expand parent notification and tighten counselor workflows.
