Dr. Finch read the district's formal response to a Jan. 27 public comment asking how families are notified about, may review, and may opt out of the mid-level health curriculum. "The mid level campus provides families with the opportunity to review the curriculum during an evening meeting that is held during spring conference week," he said, and added that parents and guardians will be informed in February by a letter from the school that includes opt-out information.
Dr. Finch said the district scheduled the parent review meeting for the evening of Thursday, April 2, 2026. He told parents and community members who want to review any instructional materials to contact Stacy Drake, assistant superintendent, at (509) 972-6005. "Parents and guardians can opt out of having their child learn the unit," Dr. Finch said, describing the district's procedural response to the earlier public comment.
The statement was presented as a response to an earlier public comment and the board did not take any new action during the meeting on curriculum content; the district identified a date, a review process and an opt-out mechanism for families.
