The Hutchinson City Council voted Nov. 18 to annex land submitted by AVE-PLP Properties LLC (doing business as Prairie Land Partners), a tract generally east and north of the intersection of K‑61 and U.S. Highway 50, to accommodate a planned facility expansion.
Paul Brown, the city attorney, said the petition and consent for annexation covers just under seven acres and enables a proposed roughly 60,000-square-foot addition that would include roughly 20 service bays and classroom space to support a partnership with Hutchinson Community College. Brown said the annexation would allow the project to proceed and noted the company has been established in Hutchinson for many years.
Council members asked whether the expansion was affiliated with a dealership; speakers clarified the college-related training space will be separated by a wall from the dealership area. A motion to approve the annexation ordinance was moved, seconded and passed on roll call.
Why it matters: Annexation will allow the company to expand inside city limits and potentially issue bonds in the future to fund improvements. The expansion is tied to local workforce development via a partnership with the community college.
What's next: Staff will record the annexation ordinance and coordinate any future bond or permitting processes as the project advances.
