Hutchinson council installs new mayor, vice mayor and swears in a councilmember
Summary
At the Jan. 6 meeting the council elected and swore in Scott Meggers as mayor and Greg Fast as vice mayor; Darren Truen was sworn in as a councilmember during the same meeting.
Council nominations and votes established the council's leadership for the year. Following roll call, councilmembers nominated Scott for mayor; a motion and second were recorded and the council voted in favor, after which he recited the oath of office and was congratulated by colleagues. Greg Fast was nominated and sworn in as vice mayor after a separate nomination and second.
Earlier in the meeting the clerk administered the oath of office to Darren Truen as a newly seated council member; Truen recited the pledge to support the U.S. and Kansas constitutions and the city ordinances and swore to faithfully perform the duties of a council member.
The council also conducted related ceremonial thanks and brief remarks about incoming and outgoing members.
What happens next: sworn members will assume regular duties and committee assignments; staff will record oaths and update official rosters.
