Veterans Center to continue six‑month food outreach; holiday gathering scheduled

Barbara Foreman, executive director of the Veterans Center, reported to the Community Services Committee that the center will continue veteran food outreach at four sites — South Coffeyville, No Water, Tahlequah and Barron — for an additional six months under the existing budget arrangement with the Eastern Oklahoma Food Bank.
Foreman said the outreach typically serves between 120 and 125 people at most sites and that the Veterans' Christmas gathering will be held Friday the 10th at CHOTA. She thanked council members who have helped serve veterans at past events and encouraged participation in the drive‑through distribution format used at the outreach sites.
"We served 120 to 125 at most of those sites, and they've given us 6 more months, and they only do that at a 6 month level, because of budget," Foreman said, noting the Eastern Oklahoma Food Bank provides assistance that is free to veterans.
Committee members thanked Foreman for the report. No formal committee action was taken on the Veterans Center items during the meeting.
