Salisbury Elementary PTA pitches playground fundraising; committee hears procurement and town-ownership clarifications

Principal Michael Astuccio presented the Salisbury Elementary School (SES) playground fundraising plan on Feb. 11 and explained changes made to the PTA outreach materials to clarify that business sponsorships would be PTA promotions (not school advertising) and that the town of Salisbury owns the building, which affects long-term asset ownership.

Astuccio said the PTA and a project team vetted vendors and that because the selected vendor is on a state contract the procurement process is condensed; committee members sought clarity on whether the school committee must approve naming or logo displays in the future and discussed how large sponsorships would be publicly reviewed. One committee member explained that because the building is town-owned there may be multiple public-review steps and that the committee could ask for public discussion if a major sponsor is proposed.

Administrators said contact information on the flyer would route interested parties through the school so the PTA could manage sponsor relations while ensuring school administrators maintained oversight. Committee members thanked the presenters and signaled they did not feel a formal vote to approve the brochure or campaign was needed at this time, while noting the committee reserves the right to review large sponsorships or naming requests.

Next steps include the PTA beginning a business-sponsorship outreach push and continued coordination with Richmond (procurement) and town officials to ensure compliance with town procedures.
