The Henrico County School Board on Oct. 23 voted to name the new Tuckahoe Middle School auditorium for longtime county music educator Kirkland Jackson and waived the customary 30‑day review period.
"I make a motion to name the Tuckahoe Middle School auditorium the Kirkland Jackson Auditorium and to waive the 30 day review period," Chair Shay said. The motion was seconded by Mr. Young and the board voted in favor with the chair announcing, "The ayes have it." The board indicated staff, families and music educators across the county supported the recommendation; a printed letter from the Tuckahoe principal was to be shared with the honoree.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the consent agenda (items 10.01–10.05) on a motion by Mr. Young, seconded by Miss Atkins. The chair announced the consent agenda passed with an 'aye' vote. The consent items were presented as a single bundle and there were no requests to pull items for separate discussion.
The board temporarily suspended the monthly meeting to hold a redistricting public hearing scheduled for 7:00 p.m.; the hearing was conducted over the sign-up list (names read: Manjil Devoca, David Smiley, Colleen Mannion) but concluded with no speakers appearing at the podium. After the redistricting hearing the board resumed the regular meeting.
Other ceremonial items at the Oct. 23 meeting included student performances from Greenwood Elementary, recognition of National School Bus Safety Week and National Principal Appreciation Month, an ASL game night highlight, and literacy awards for Samantha Carweil and Casey McBride.
The board announced its next work session and monthly meeting for Nov. 13, 2025, at Newbridge Auditorium. The meeting was adjourned.
