City manager reports Montek Street waterline finished; ice damage to community center reported

Bert, the city manager, reported that crews finished a waterline on Montek Street running from Matthews to Sanders and that the city will tie the line in and test the water to ensure quality and pressure improvements downtown.
"They pretty much finished today. We'll tie that line in, and and we'll have to test it to make sure it's pure," Bert said. He said the work aims to increase pressure in the downtown area, noting the city lacks sufficient pressure on Smith Street for some sprinkler systems.
Bert also reported ice damage at the community center, saying, "Just the air conditioners were 68,000 and something," and noted damage to rain gutters and to equipment at the electric barn. He said he had talked to a builder about gutter replacement and that most damage is covered by the city's insurance.
Council members asked whether the new line would be sufficient to meet sprinkler requirements; Bert said staff member Stoney proposed an additional plan to add pressure if the new line does not fully resolve the problem. The city will test the connected line and report back on pressure and any additional work needed.
No formal action was taken; the report was informational and followed by consent agenda approval and other agenda items.
