Commission hears updates on SCADA, fluoride, solar PPA and community programs

At the Feb. 4 meeting, city staff delivered a series of operational updates covering information-technology upgrades, water-quality monitoring and community programs.
Speaker 3 praised recent SCADA network updates and a cloud migration, calling the work "very well done" and highlighting security improvements; Speaker 8 confirmed the base set of systems is in place and said staff are moving forward quickly.
On water quality, Speaker 3 asked about fluoride targets. Speaker 5 said the target is 0.7 milligrams per liter (range 0.6–0.8), that January readings averaged roughly 0.75, and that measurement imprecision can cause small variances. "If anything, we're gonna be able to drop the whole thing down and try and get a little closer to 0.7," Speaker 5 said.
Staff also updated the commission on a solar project: Speaker 7 said with the lease signed and a power purchase agreement (PPA) expected, the project meets federal tax-incentive timing requirements so physical installation does not need to occur by July; staff will survey the site and allow prairie/pollinator planting after removing trees and stumps.
On capital projects, Speaker 7 reported meeting with an engineering firm on final parking-lot designs; the next step is issuing public bid advertisements (two newspaper postings will be required) and returning when bids come in.
Community services were noted as well: Speaker 6 described the Neighborhood Table meal program at the Sparhawk Building, saying the program provides a free weekly meal and is recruiting volunteers; Speaker 1 volunteered to help and staff agreed to follow up by email.
These updates were informational; the commission did not take separate formal actions on these items during the meeting.
