Fortuna planning staff announces strategic-planning meetings and potential $3.6M CDBG funding opportunity

Planning staff told the Fortuna Planning Commission on Feb. 10 that the city will host three public strategic-planning meetings to solicit community input for a comprehensive general plan update.
Staff said the first meeting will be March 25 at the River Lodge from 5 to 8 p.m., a second session will be April 11 (11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and a third meeting is planned for April 30 at the Monday Club (time to be determined). The meetings are intended to gather public priorities and provide input that could guide substantial updates to the General Plan and zoning code.
Staff also said Fortuna is eligible to apply for up to $3,600,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds through the California Department of Housing and Community Development. The city may submit up to three separate applications for planning, economic development or projects; staff said public hearings will be held prior to any grant application.
Planning staff encouraged the public to attend the workshops and noted that more notice will be provided when details are finalized.
