EDC receives updates on pole removals, new tenant, comprehensive plan and January finances

At its February meeting the Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corporation received several operational updates: staff told the board they have identified six additional lamp fixtures and arms for removal along FM 518 and are coordinating with TNMP on required forms and engineering; staff also reported one new tenant finish (Huntington Bank at 699 South Princewood Drive, Suite 101).
Aubrey, a staff member, gave an update on the city’s comprehensive plan: a project page is live, a rescheduled bus tour is set for Feb. 23, surveys were distributed to roughly 3,500 Friendswood ISD students, and Dura (the consultant team) is scheduled to return in March to discuss downtown improvements.
On finances, staff presented January 2026 results: the EDC began the month with a fund balance of $3,201,761, recorded revenue of $82,629 (sales tax and interest), incurred a $1,333 payment to the city, and closed the month with an ending fund balance of $3,283,057 and an unencumbered balance of $3,264,931; about $18,000 remains pending for signs. Staff reminded the board it has not used debt for projects and will revisit staff time/cost allocations during the city’s budget cycle.
