Planner: Salt Lake Golf Course rezoning changed to agricultural because no residential development planned

County Planner Mark Von Hatchen explained to the board that staff recommended reclassifying a rezoning petition for the Salt Lake Golf Course from R-2 (a zoning class used for higher-density residential served by public sewer and water) back to agricultural because the applicant is not proposing residential development.
"In talking to the applicants prior to submission of that petition, they weren't intending to do any kind of residential development with this proposal," Von Hatchen said, adding that staff advised rezoning the property to agricultural and keeping the whole complex under a single zoning district. He said the planned development would include lodges for transient guests but not individual residential lots for private ownership.
Commissioners heard questions from the public/other commissioners about surveys that appeared to show subdivided lots along Buttehaven Road; Von Hatchen said he did not believe lots were being created and that the whole complex would remain a single property. The planner said staff wanted to remove the R-2 designation that remained from a previous golf-course development.
The board did not take additional action on the rezoning during the recorded discussion; the exchange served to clarify the consent-agenda item for the public.
