Commission names Commissioner Hagler design-committee alternate; staff outlines March 12 Phillips Road EIR hearing format

The Planning Commission discussed internal committee appointments and future hearing logistics at the Feb. 12 meeting. After brief discussion about rotation and timing of the design committee chair and alternate, Commissioner Unidad moved to nominate Commissioner Hagler as the design committee alternate/cochair for the remainder of the fiscal year; Commissioner Pryor seconded and the motion passed by roll call. The chair noted there is no 10-day appeal period for this internal appointment.
Greg Better, assistant director for Development Services, told the commission there will be no meeting on Feb. 26 but that the commission will meet on March 12. Better outlined a special format for the Phillips Road draft environmental impact report (EIR) item: staff will present an overview of the project and the EIR's identified significant impacts, then the hearing will be a formal forum for members of the public to provide oral comments on the draft EIR; staff said responses to those comments will be provided in writing in the final EIR later in the spring.
The commission adjourned after a standard motion and vote.
