Budget staff outline TRIM calendar and FTE survey schedule that drive district budgets

Budget staff briefed the Polk County School Board Feb. 10 on timelines that shape the district's annual budget and state funding calculations.
The presentation covered the TRIM (Truth in Millage) schedule, FEFP reporting milestones and the FTE survey cadence. Staff walked through how the property-appraiser's certification and legislative conference reports feed preliminary calculations, and how Survey 2 data typically drive site-based budgets for principals in the winter. The four surveys (Survey 1 in July, Survey 2 in October, Survey 3 in February and Survey 4 in June) provide progressively more finalized FTE data and recalibrations that feed interim and final calculations, staff explained.
Budget staff noted deadlines for tentative and final public hearings, DOE and Department of Revenue submissions, and said the district will return with a complete adoption calendar and budget materials as the process continues.
No board action was required at the workshop; the briefing was presented so board members understand timing and dependencies for upcoming budget planning and school staffing decisions.
