The Lodi Improvement Committee on Tuesday approved a set of priorities for 2026, agreed to pursue community town halls and partnership events, and elected Member Hair as vice chair.
At the start of the meeting the committee reviewed tasks identified in a recent special meeting and assigned liaisons for key areas. Member Sharma will act as a liaison for informational updates and public‑services outreach related to Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs, and committee members agreed to emphasize public outreach to notify nonprofits ahead of the application cycle.
Staff explained the committee will not vote this year on CDBG public‑services funding allocations because those awards follow a two‑year cycle; applications are to be re‑released and due in January 2027 with evaluation in February–March and council action expected in May. Staff also said the scoring form will be streamlined for clarity, not to remove applicant information.
The committee discussed program tasks including youth engagement, animal services, beautification and event planning. Members proposed partnering with the Youth Commission on an Earth Day‑themed festival and with local groups such as Tree Lodi and Love Lodi for cleanups and volunteer recruitment. On whether electric‑vehicle (EV) chargers should be a stand‑alone task, staff said the city’s EV master plan is in place and recommended treating chargers as a possible town‑hall topic instead of a separate, long‑term project.
Members also debated how to handle public outreach online. Staff indicated the city can host an official committee social page but recommended a preapproved list of post types and staff posting to avoid quorum concerns; at least one member volunteered to lead informal promotion through personal accounts.
Near the end of the meeting the committee nominated and confirmed Member Hair as vice chair by roll call. Staff outlined vice‑chair duties to step in if the chair is unavailable and said training materials for chairs would be shared.
The committee is scheduled to present an update to the City Council in May and again in the fall; the committee asked for a draft presentation in April to allow review and revision before submission to staff for agenda placement.
