ACT committee proposes targets to boost civic engagement and outreach

Chair Lisa Kearns said the committee was asked by the council president to propose a major project for the year: "to propose, develop, and begin to implement a strategy and associated policies and procedures to enhance civic and public engagement." She listed candidate targets that include increasing outreach to underrepresented constituents, creating a system to track resident concerns end-to-end, strengthening relationships with local nonprofits, and offering public-education events and listening sessions.
Members urged specificity. One committee member suggested publishing an organizational chart to help residents know who to contact; another recommended staff and committee members meet to select two or three "meaty" targets to present to full council for alignment. The chair asked department heads and committee members to submit proposed targets so the committee can consolidate them and present recommendations before the next council meeting.
What happens next: committee members and staff will propose concrete targets and a consolidated recommendation is expected to be prepared for the upcoming council meeting.
