Committee members said the district’s equity vision statement has been approved and that an initial internal rollout (faculty professional development and website updates) has occurred. The committee discussed next steps for external outreach to the public and town stakeholders to raise awareness beyond staff and students.
Separately, Ally reported the inclusive-language guidance is complete and has been reviewed by the ad council; she trimmed the draft and will request a final review from Rob before bringing it back to this committee for formal recommendation to administration. Committee members agreed the group’s role is advisory: the advisory committee provides input to the school committee and administration rather than making final policy.
Members asked staff to rediscover and circulate the existing rollout plan so the committee can help "reinvigorate" public-facing communications. The committee flagged coordination with other materials (the discipline policy and handbooks) so external messaging remains consistent.
Next steps: Ally will check with Rob and email the trimmed inclusive-language draft to committee members so it can be added to a future agenda for additional input.
