Murrysville Borough Council elected Dane Dice as council president and Mac McKenna as vice president during its reorganizational meeting on Jan. 6, 2025, and took a series of routine administrative votes to set the borough’s leadership, appointments and financial housekeeping for the year.
The council opened nominations for president and, after a roll-call vote in which each member named Dane Dice, the chair announced the election was unanimous. The council later nominated and voted unanimously for Mac McKenna as vice president.
The meeting moved quickly through a consent calendar and a slate of appointments to municipal boards and commissions. Council approved appointments for items 1 through 9 by unanimous vote. Staff flagged two library-board items for the public record: Jill Cooper will be leaving the board, and Susan Long submitted a resignation effective Jan. 16, creating a forthcoming vacancy.
Mayor Seinen used the meeting to announce several community programs and events, including a Christmas tree recycling drop-off hosted by the Murrysville Export Rotary through Jan. 11, ARC tax-prep appointments at the Murrysville Community Center, a 'hot chocolate hike' at Townsend Park on Jan. 22, a Family Connection meeting on Jan. 8 with Laura Kwalik of Westmoreland County Behavioral Health, and an AAUW speaker event on Jan. 9. "Drop off your live Christmas tree for recycling into mulch," the mayor said during announcements, providing dates and the drop-off location.
On financial and administrative items, council reaffirmed bank-account resolutions, approved bonding of officials (insurance), and designated official depositories including Dollar Bank, First Commonwealth Bank, First Summit Bank, PLGIT, PNC Bank and S&T Bank. A council member asked about PLGIT; a staff member described it as run through the state and used for pooled government investments.
Council also reviewed meeting dates and times for 2025 and approved keeping the current schedule (first Wednesdays and third Tuesdays, with staff to advertise any changes if needed).
On pension matters, council moved to advertise an ordinance referenced in the meeting as "ordinance 10 97-25" concerning contributions for the police pension plan in 2025. A staff member noted the contribution rates are actuarial and stated, "the rate of contribution is 5% for the 2025 calendar year." The motion to advertise the ordinance passed unanimously.
Before adjourning to a brief executive session, the solicitor requested a short session; council said there would be no business coming out of it. Council then moved to adjourn.
The reorganizational meeting set the borough’s leadership and administrative framework for 2025 and recorded several upcoming community events and staffing changes for public notice.
