Murrysville library board introduces new director, outlines renovation plans

Kat Neidig was introduced to borough council as the new director of the Murrysville Community Library and used her first public remarks to outline priorities for the library.
Terry Wub, president of the library board of trustees, said Neidig’s appointment is effective Jan. 27 and summarized her credentials, noting an undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh in anthropology with a minor in art history and a 2020 master’s in library and information science. Wub said Neidig joined the library staff in 2020 and has held roles in acquisitions, technical services and as a team services librarian.
Neidig told council she grew up using the library and wants to “create that same feeling for other children to nurture young readers and curious minds.” She said the library will continue renovations begun in the children’s room and the makerspace (referred to during the meeting as the Technook space) and that the next step is to “breathe new life into the adult and teen sections of the library.”
Neidig said the library plans to use grant funds to support the work and that she has already begun conversations with borough staff Michael Nestico and Bill Payano about coordinating municipal support. “It is through your generous support that the library is able to deliver the programming and services that our community has come to expect,” she said.
The introduction was brief and ceremonial; no formal council action was required for the appointment itself during the meeting. Council thanked the library representatives before moving to the regular agenda.
