Brighton board highlights French Road upgrades and readies outreach for Council Rock capital vote

At its Oct. 15 meeting, the Brighton Central School District Board of Education heard a facilities update on French Road School and an outreach plan for an upcoming Council Rock Primary School capital-project vote.
John Novelli, the district’s director of buildings and grounds, told the board the French Road gym renovation is complete and that the project installed a new rooftop ventilation unit with MERV‑14 filtration to bring more outside air into the space. Novelli said the district will begin a front‑vestibule security project in the spring to create a two‑stage secured entry, and plans include façade and signage updates, replacement of outdated heat pumps, classroom modernizations and new stage lighting. "We installed new flooring, new paint," Novelli said, and the ventilation upgrades "are cleaning up the air that everybody is breathing." He added that a kitchen bump‑out will convert freezer/cooler area into dry storage and allow for updated cooking equipment.
Novelli described an "alternate" scope for the work: if funds remain, the district will continue renovating additional classrooms until completion. Board members and staff noted phasing will follow school calendars and summer access windows; some work already completed was slightly delayed but now in use.
Dan Goldman outlined the district’s outreach ahead of the Council Rock capital‑project vote. He said the district sent an emailed announcement via ParentSquare, launched a dedicated website (bcsd.org/capitalproject) with presentations and a recorded video of the board briefing, and will distribute a fact sheet, postcard mailings and display boards in school lobbies. Goldman said a public hearing and community forum are scheduled for Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to present details and receive questions.
District staff said the communications effort aims to reach residents through multiple channels — email, social media, mailed postcards and on‑site displays — to broaden awareness ahead of the vote.
Next steps: staff will continue publishing materials and host the Nov. 19 hearings to explain the Council Rock proposal in advance of the district vote.
