Brighton Central School District grants tenure to two elementary teachers

The Brighton Central School District Board of Education on Dec. 3 approved 10-year tenure appointments for two teachers, Pavette Coley Winkelback and Carolyn Bucci, following presentations that highlighted their classroom work and service to students.

Superintendent Dr. Miguel introduced the recommendations and read endorsing evaluations for each candidate. He summarized Winkelback’s credentials, saying she holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and childhood education from SUNY Geneseo and a master’s in literacy from Nazareth College and described her work at French Road as a reading teacher and case manager who ‘‘goes above and beyond daily to ensure the success of her reading students.’’ The superintendent also noted her leadership with the multicultural club and early-morning reading program.

Dr. Miguel also described Bucci’s background, listing her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Valparaiso University and a master’s in early childhood education from Salem State University, and cited her experience in ENL and dual-language classrooms. The superintendent said Bucci ‘‘completes her probationary period demonstrating excellence in teaching and leadership.’’

A motion to approve the two tenure recommendations was moved and seconded on the record by board members; the board voted by voice to approve the appointments.

The appointments were presented as the district’s commitment to retain teachers who have demonstrated sustained instructional impact and community engagement. No board member opposed the motion, and the board applauded the honorees before moving to other business.

Next steps: the district indicated it will celebrate the honorees at a future meeting and formalize the tenure appointments in personnel records.
