Board reviews TCMS capital improvements plan; Phase 1 out to bid

Brighton Central School District officials presented a facilities update for 12 Corners Middle School on Jan. 21, detailing completed 2022 work and planned modernization phases.

Lou, joined by architect David Hallmark of SEI Design, reviewed the 2022 boiler replacement and access improvements that officials said improve efficiency and make future equipment replacement easier. Phase 1 work now out to bid includes converting four third‑floor classrooms into a STEAM suite, corridor modernization to reduce trip hazards, storefront and entry repairs, and a freight elevator replacement. Lou said Phase 1 work is expected to begin this coming summer if bids proceed as planned.

Phase 2 design documents are with the State Education Department for review, Lou said; that stage includes relocating the main office to a more secure, hardened vestibule where visitors would be processed through the district's Raptor system before gaining access to the building. Other priorities identified by Principal Dr. Danielle Edmonds and the facilities team include gym air conditioning, flooring and locker upgrades, window replacement planning, bathroom upgrades, interior fire‑door improvements, and possible auditorium and bleacher work.

Board members applauded the inclusion of operations staff feedback in the design process and thanked facilities staff for coordinating with the board to expedite needed change‑order decisions.

Next steps: proceed with bidding for Phase 1, monitor State Education Department reviews for Phase 2, and bring subsequent budget implications back to the board for approval.
