Board approves change orders and early bids; agenda and adjournment recorded

The Springfield R‑XII Board of Education approved a set of bond‑project change orders and early bid items during its Feb. 17 meeting, clearing early demolition and precast work that staff said is needed to keep construction schedules on track.

The board voted to approve the month's change orders and related agreements after a motion by Vice President Kinkade, seconded by Board member Huff; the chair cast a supporting vote. Board members also voted to authorize early bids for precast storm‑shelter components and demolition at Bingham Elementary so crews can begin work once school is out. Staff told the board the Bingham early bid package totaled about $1,300,000 and that the subcontractor for demolition was Bumgarner.

The meeting also recorded routine procedural actions: the agenda was approved (motion by Dr. Thomas Tate; second by Board member Huff) and the board adjourned following closing remarks (motion by Dr. Thomas Tate; second by Board member Hough). No controversial or late‑breaking policy votes took place; several action items were slated for the Feb. 24 or Feb. 25 regular meeting for final consent‑agenda votes.

Board members asked staff to preserve a mural and other elements from the existing Bingham building for reuse in the new facility. Staff said the mural will be saved and re‑used in the replacement building. The meeting closed at roughly 7:00 p.m., after routine updates and member remarks.
