Platteville council adopts Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan after public outreach

The Platteville Common Council voted on Feb. 10 to adopt the city’s Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP), a parks and recreation policy document prepared with the Southwest Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission.
Bob Gates presented the plan background and said the outreach effort drew approximately 900 survey respondents—significantly more than the prior planning cycle. Gates said the Parks and Recreation Committee recommended the draft for council adoption after local meetings and staff coordination. "Approximately 900 respondents completed the survey, significantly higher than 150 from the previous plan," Gates said during the presentation.
Councilmember Bob Gates moved to adopt Resolution 26‑03 and a second was recorded; Colette Stephan conducted the roll call and the resolution carried unanimously. Staff said the CORP will guide park maintenance, trail improvements and future grant applications and noted the plan will support forthcoming DNR and other funding opportunities.
The council recorded the action as the only formal vote on the evening’s agenda; staff said next steps include incorporating committee comments and proceeding with implementation planning and grant pursuit as opportunities arise.
