Officials and attendees noted the older building contains asbestos and that, for that reason, demolition or renovation was not expected in the near term. “Originally, I was always told that we're not gonna knock it down or renovate that 1 because of all the asbestos in it,” the chair said. Attendees agreed the building will eventually require action but that the developer currently has no plans for immediate reuse or demolition.
No formal permitting decision or vote occurred during the meeting. The town recorded the discussion as part of the public record; officials signaled they will continue to monitor the project as it proceeds through the planning and utility‑metering processes.
