Suamico approves 2024 MS4 annual report; water quality and outreach highlighted

The Suamico Village Board approved the village's 2024 Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) annual report on March 17, with staff reporting that the village met all DNR permit requirements.

Public works staff summarized the report's purpose and content, saying it documents the village's stormwater activities, site reviews, inspections, public outreach and pollutant-reduction modeling. The report includes estimated pollutant-removal rates for the village's systems: 63.2% for suspended solids and 55% for total phosphorus, figures staff said place Suamico above many more-urbanized municipalities because of its ditches, green space and swales.

Public comment on the MS4 report was solicited and none was received. Trustee McKeefrey moved to approve the annual report and Trustee Andrews seconded; the roll-call vote was 5-0 in favor.

Staff also presented the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) on drinking-water quality required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The CCR will be distributed with first-quarter utility bills and posted on the village website; staff reported no notable changes in contaminant levels from the prior year and reminded trustees that the DNR sets sampling schedules for specific contaminants.
