Suamico accepts multiple public-safety grants, thanks local fishing club and extends grant-writer agreement

The Suamico Village Board Monday approved several grants and recognized a private donation to the fire department while extending its shared grant‑writer agreement with the Howard‑Suamico School District.
Fire Chief Burtler described three awards and a donation. The board adopted a resolution of gratitude for the Green Bay Area Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club, which donated a Rescue Alive ice‑water sled and an ice‑water rescue suit valued at $6,000. "They purchased a ice water sled and a, ice water rescue suit... I'm thanking them for the donation," Chief Bertler said as he introduced the club members.
The board also approved Resolution 25006, accepting $51,956.16 from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Emergency Medical Services Funding Assistance Program to pay for EMS training, replacement AEDs and training for an in‑house CPR instructor. Chief Burtler said the award aligns with the department’s strategic plan to fund EMS supplies and training.
Separately, the board accepted a $22,545 award from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation (Resolution 25007) to buy battery‑powered extrication tools (commonly called "Jaws of Life"). Burtler said reduced pricing through a third‑party vendor makes the equipment effectively worth about $40,000 at retail pricing.
On administrative business the board reviewed the shared grant‑writer services agreement that has partnered the village with the Howard‑Suamico School District since 2022 and credited grant writer Ben Rogers with generating roughly $184,000 in revenue for Suamico to date. After discussion about cost control and the school‑district payroll schedule, Trustee Romas moved, and Trustee Andrews seconded, approval of the operational agreement through 2027 with a cap of $20,000 per year for Suamico’s share; the motion passed on a unanimous roll call.
All grant acceptances and the agreement extension were approved by unanimous votes. The board also briefly discussed, but did not finalize, a staff proposal to consider acceptance of right‑of‑way and roadway dedication for Wisteria Circle.
