The Suamico Village Board approved an ordinance rezoning parcel SU 321-2 from Business to Neighborhood Business and separately approved a conditional-use application to permit conversion of a detached garage into a residential unit on the same parcel.
Zoning Administrator Dunks said the rezone and conditional use are paired steps: neighborhood business zoning allows the requested residential unit as a conditional use, while the existing business zoning would not. Conditions attached to the conditional-use approval include discontinuance of all vehicle sales or service on the property and verification from Brown County that the septic system will support an additional residential unit before permits are issued.
A member of the public, Lee Rentmeister of Elmwood Road, asked whether the change was a step toward larger-scale multifamily development; staff replied that multifamily or sewered development in that corridor is unlikely and that sewer expansion is not in the village’s 20-year plan.
Trustee McKeefrey moved the conditional-use motion and Trustee Romas seconded; both the rezone ordinance and the conditional use carried by unanimous votes recorded as 7–0.
