The Historic Preservation Commission on April 21 presented a draft interpretive sign that will map and describe about 28 historic properties in Suamico.
After the board suspended rules to allow the presentation out of order, a commission member (Heather) showed a rough draft and said the group is working with the sign vendor to finalize text size, map scale and verbiage. The sign will include numbered references to properties, larger readable text, a QR code linking to an online companion site for iterative updates, and acknowledgments of donors and contributors from local historical organizations.
Heather said the commission has been meeting frequently to finish the project and expects to meet the vendor again for a full‑scale proof; she estimated installation in mid‑to‑late June or, if delayed, early July. Trustees raised legibility concerns for the top row of text and requested a full‑size proof to view at roughly 7 feet, 8 inches above the ground to confirm readability.
Board and staff discussed outreach plans (newsletter and QR code) so residents can suggest additional sites; the commission said the QR link will allow the sign content to evolve without replacing the physical vinyl. The board returned the agenda to normal order by unanimous voice vote.
