Property manager thanks San Marcos emergency crews after Feb. 2 apartment fire

Claudia Gonzalez, property manager at Cactus Garden Apartments, addressed the San Marcos City Council on Feb. 10 to thank emergency responders for their handling of a Feb. 2 apartment fire. "The fire destroyed 4 homes and displaced 4 families," Gonzalez said, describing a chaotic scene that was met with what she called a fast, professional response from the city fire department and sheriff's deputies as well as mutual-aid units from Vista and Carlsbad.
Gonzalez told the council that both residents and property managers felt supported by the emergency response and by elected officials who visited tenants in the days after the incident. She specifically thanked Mayor Jones and Deputy Mayor Sunella for coming to speak with tenants and providing reassurance.
Mayor Jones also thanked the city's fire and sheriff departments during the meeting, saying the response demonstrated compassion and effective coordination during a traumatic event. The council did not announce additional city actions related to the Feb. 2 fire during the Feb. 10 meeting.
