Rust, leaning trees and camera limits: Ocean Shores parks board reviews inspections and volunteer projects

Ocean Shores Parks Board members reviewed inspection findings and maintenance priorities at their Feb. 13 meeting, identifying corroded playground equipment, a tree leaning toward a neighbor’s property and loose PVC piping near Emerson courts that staff will address.
Board members said rusted chains and corroded joints on playground equipment at Textmar need attention; one member advised wire-wheeling and repainting to extend life. Public works reported it lacks equipment to reach the highest trees at Olympic Park and will contract Judd Tree Service to top those trees and then handle cleanup.
Separately, public works said network capability is the current constraint for installing cameras at Chinook and North Bay parks. Staff discussed 5G cellular cameras and wired solutions, but noted some cellular options do not integrate with the city’s public-record systems. Cameras at the wastewater plant received upgrade priority because that network is complete.
Volunteers and board members also discussed a community-built scoreboard for the ballfield. Tim Hiles asked for volunteers to help assemble the scoreboard (materials: treated 4x4s and plywood). Members suggested scheduling a Saturday build day and publicizing the work through the city and council channels.
The board agreed to follow up with public works by email on tree removal and PVC pipe removal and to get cost estimates and repair plans for rusted equipment.
