Committee approves extending charter application review from 90 to 120 days

Representative Bratton introduced House Bill 24, which replaces multiple incremental deadlines with a single overall review period and extends the total review time after a complete application from 90 days to 120 days. "Overall, House Bill 24 is procedural adjustment focused on improving the review process rather than altering the charter school policy in itself," Bratton said.
John Waller, executive director of the Wyoming Charter School Authorizing Board, said the added time will enable a more rigorous review while still allowing schools adequate time to prepare if approved. Carrie Klein of the Wyoming Public Charter School Association and Brian Farmer of the Wyoming School Boards Association also testified in favor, saying the flexibility benefits authorizers and communities.
With no amendments offered and no substantive questions remaining, the committee voted by roll call with nine ayes to pass House Bill 24 out of committee.
Next steps: HB24 will be carried to the House floor with the committee recommendation.
