Jonesborough approves new mowing and landscaping contracts after vendor protest

Tony Snap, identified himself as owner of Snap's Lawn Care, told the board he has provided mowing and field work to the town for decades and described recent emergency work and field repairs. "I just want to tell you that I've stepped over backwards to help this town," Snap said during the citizen‑comment period.
Public‑works staff (Craig Ford) explained the math behind the recommendation: Snap’s bid for the 32 mowing cycles was $65,280 higher than the lowest bid; the board selected the second‑lowest bidder for mowing, which was $42,080 lower than Snap’s bid for comparable athletic fields. Ford said the town will see a net reduction of about $4,404 versus last year by taking the recommended route, and landscaping costs declined by about $18,000 annually under the new contracts. Mowing pricing was figured on 32 cycles; the landscaping contract covers nine months.
The motion to approve the recommended contracts was moved and seconded and carried by roll call.
