Laguna Niguel honors outgoing Mayor Ray Genaway; he reflects on the year's accomplishments

Laguna Niguel ' The City Council on Dec. 2 presented a plaque honoring outgoing Mayor Ray Genaway and heard his remarks reflecting on accomplishments during his term.
Mayor Johns opened the presentation by thanking Genaway for his service and presenting a plaque. Genaway described the past year as "incredibly productive," citing passage of the city's first active transportation plan, adoption of a balanced biennial budget with no new taxes, and completion of the first general plan update in 33 years. He also highlighted large community events such as the Sea Country Festival, which he said drew more than 20,000 attendees.
Genaway recounted the city's emergency response during the Beacon fire and praised coordination with the Orange County Fire Authority and the sheriff's department. He also referenced the city's opposition to a proposed battery facility, acknowledging community advocacy groups and coordinated regional action on the matter. Genaway thanked city staff, volunteers, commissioners and his family for their support during his term.
The council closed the presentation, Mayor Johns thanked Genaway and presented a token to his wife, Rachel. Presentations concluded and the council moved on to public comment and the rest of the agenda.
