Lavaca County tables Matrix Petroleum lease extension for legal review

The Lavaca County Commissioners on June 10 tabled consideration of an oil-and-gas lease agreement between Lavaca County and Matrix Petroleum to allow county legal counsel time to review the contract.
The presiding judge said the lease came in late and that the county's legal team had not yet examined it. Commissioners noted an apparent $450 bonus referenced in the paperwork and expressed discomfort approving the extension without attorney review. "I have not wrote this contract, so I'm not comfortable at this moment," the presiding judge said.
A motion by Commissioner, Precinct 3 to table the lease, seconded by Commissioner, Precinct 1, passed by voice vote. The court directed that the county's legal team review the lease before returning it to the commissioners for action.
