Terry Lockson, chief climate resiliency officer and tribal liaison, briefed the Board of Supervisors on the updated 2-1-1 Lake County service on Feb. 10, explaining a new contract with Interface Children & Family Services and an updated website, 211lake.org.
Lockson said the vendor operates a statewide and national database that will be curated for Lake County and that residents can call, text, or search the site for referrals. The system will support emergency response (PSPS coordination and public-safety power shutoffs), deliver text notifications for opened cooling or warming centers and food-distribution updates, and host a searchable database of local services. Lockson said the county will provide printed collateral, social-media outreach and a press release as part of the relaunch.
Why it matters: 2-1-1 is a centralized information-and-referral resource that provides callers with connections to housing, utility and social-support services. The relaunch aims to improve accessibility during emergencies and for routine social services.
Next steps: staff will coordinate tribal participation, expand outreach to jurisdictions and community partners, and monitor call volumes and special-project usage. Board members asked about outreach strategies and local-jurisdiction data entry; staff said they will hold meetings to train partners on submitting agency information and to pursue advertising opportunities.
