Pearl Sample staff describe semester award show that spotlights student character and growth

The presenter said the awards are planned about six weeks in advance, staff submit themes, and an awards committee from across grade levels writes the script, creates costumes and videos and ties awards to a central theme. "We do them to celebrate students beyond the academics, recognize character, effort, and growth," the presenter said, noting categories like stellar performance, excellent effort, citizenship and leadership and special efforts to include students in special education programs.
The presenter said the show is intentionally secret to students until they arrive in the gym and that parents are mailed invitations and asked to keep the event a surprise. Board members thanked staff for the effort and asked to receive the event video and the full show file for review.
