Mister Hartman told the committee the club designation differs from a student interest club and, under PIAA language, “a club operates almost identically to having a PIAA interscholastic team.” He said the district is not yet ready to field a full team but wants to provide competitive opportunities beyond girls’ participation on the boys’ team. “We will be able to absorb any of the costs…within the current wrestling budget,” Hartman said, adding boys’ coaches would coach the girls initially and the program could be phased up to a full team if participation warrants it.
No formal vote was recorded; staff asked the committee to accept the proposal and move it forward for further consideration at the board level.
