Georgia Military College seeks repair funds and modest appropriations increases

Major General Terrence McKenrick, president of Georgia Military College (GMC), presented GMC's FY27 budget items and a renovation request to the appropriations subcommittee.
McKenrick described GMC's four elements: a K–12 prep school with approximately 900 students, a junior college with roughly 11,000 students (noting 80% are first-generation and many require financial aid), seven satellite locations and an online college. He asked for modest increases tied to health-insurance premium adjustments, teacher certification and headcount changes and noted the governor's appropriation increases for the prep school and junior college formulas.
On capital needs, McKenrick said GMC submitted a handout detailing six state-owned projects at the Milledgeville campus and requested an additional $1.3 million to complete renovation and major-repair work (bringing the total requested for renovation to $2.4 million). He described the work as necessary to keep historic campus facilities safe and functional.
Committee members confirmed the projects are for state-owned buildings and thanked McKenrick for his service and the institution's student outcomes.
