The Banning Unified School District Board of Trustees on Aug. 14 adopted Resolution No. 26‑004 certifying the sufficiency of standards‑aligned textbooks and instructional materials and approved a suite of business items and contracts, including a new three-dimensional campus-mapping agreement, by unanimous votes.
Trustees discussed whether upcoming math-adoption materials were included in the sufficiency certification; staff clarified the district’s upcoming math materials were not reflected in the presented packet and that adoption typically includes professional development provided by publishers. "One of the really great opportunities we have in terms of looking at additional materials, along with the adoption of the materials comes professional development," staff said during the discussion. A motion to approve item 7.3 passed 5-0.
On business items, the board approved an AB 1200 public‑disclosure form for the Banning Teachers Association; an Omnia Partners cooperative‑purchasing agreement with Imperial Dade for custodial supplies; and notices of completion from McWill Sports and Surfaces Inc. for sanding/finishing of the main and auxiliary high‑school gym floors and from Montgomery Plumbing for emergency storm‑drain repairs at the district office. Trustees asked for before‑and‑after photos for the gym work and confirmed that Director of Facilities Mr. Campage participated in final walkthroughs and inspections.
The board also approved a set of contractual agreements that included a more advanced mapping platform than the district’s prior "Hour 0" mapping. District staff and Joe Sherwood described the vendor’s system as a three‑dimensional mapping and architectural‑diagram platform that could be shared with first responders and used for facilities and asset management; staff said the platform would be protected with restricted access for safety. Staff told trustees that, if approved, the vendor could start work immediately and that "Banning High School can be completely mapped by the end of Monday," with no work occurring while students are present. Trustees asked about public access to maps and requested a demonstration link and additional materials for the board and public.
All business and consent items recorded in the meeting packet were approved by voice vote with results reported as 5-0. The meeting minutes reflect the board’s desire to include clearer contract timelines and to ensure inspections and contractual expectations are built into future projects.
Next steps: Staff indicated they will continue project closeouts, provide requested photos and links, and work on timelines and contractual parameters for future vendors; no litigation, large budgets, or deadlines were declared during the meeting.
