Radcliff reviews police policy updates, annual training and equipment changes

Chief Krause said the department uses a PMA computerized training module: when a policy is issued officers are required to read the module and sign digitally to confirm they have reviewed and understand it; supervisors supplement that with roll-call training. He said certain ‘‘high-risk’’ policies also receive mandatory annual training in accordance with KACP guidance.
Council members asked whether the policy addresses responses to 988 mental-health calls and pre-assessment before detention; Chief Krause said responses for persons in mental distress are covered in the policy chapters and that applicable Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) are included.
Chief Krause also reviewed force equipment: he said the department previously carried older X2 taser models (listed with serial numbers in materials) and now carries X7 models. He said the department is exploring options to transfer or trade the older X2 devices to agencies that still use them rather than sell them for value.
No formal action or vote occurred during the work session; councilors said they would have time to review the policy package before a later meeting.
