The Westfield City Council unanimously adopted Ordinance 2601 to amend the Unified Development Ordinance sign standards, following a staff presentation and a favorable recommendation from the Advisory Plan Commission (APC). Lauren Gillingham Teague told the council the ordinance includes additions requested by Councilman Herron on sign maintenance and duration and adds prohibitions on signage on movable storage containers and dumpsters.
Teague said the APC had conducted a public hearing and that the ordinance had been discussed at a workshop and subsequent meetings; she provided a memo summarizing the changes. Council members acknowledged staff and city attorneys for addressing legal considerations in the draft. After a motion by Councilor Waniger and a second, the council approved the ordinance on a 4-0 roll call.
The ordinance will be incorporated into the UDO sign standards; staff noted they made edits requested during APC review and added specific prohibitions and maintenance provisions intended to clarify enforcement and align procedures with city legal guidance.
