Greenfield'Central weighs calendar changes, community split over two'week fall break

Responses were divided, with some community members urging retention of a two'week fall break and others favoring a one'week break, an extended fall break with added days in October, or closer alignment with neighboring districts.
A staff presenter emphasized that any calendar change would not take effect next fall but the following year to give schools and families time to plan. Trustees and staff discussed accommodating a teacher work day on Jan. 3 by adjusting end'of'year days. Board members asked about alignment with neighboring Hancock County districts; staff said full uniformity is unlikely because some neighboring districts have already moved away from the two'week break.
Board members asked for more time to reflect and requested the item be returned at the next meeting with any additional community feedback. No vote was taken; the board did not adopt a calendar at the Feb. 12 meeting.
