Committee approves Nikki Morrison as assistant chief examiner; staff retirements recognized

The Legislative Committee on Public Accounts on Feb. 12, 2026, approved Rachel Riddle’s recommendation to appoint Nikki Morrison as assistant chief examiner.
Riddle introduced Morrison to the committee, noting Morrison’s more than 20 years in the department and that she holds a CPA. Committee members moved and seconded the recommendation; the chair called for a voice vote and declared Morrison appointed.
After the appointment, Riddle introduced key staff to the committee: Jason Paulk, general counsel; Melissa Nepper, deputy chief examiner; Dixie Thomas, operational division lead; James Hall, training director; Josh Taylor, county division director; Wansy Wooten, state division director; and Peter Fisher, education division director. Riddle also noted that Sharon Elston, who has served 31 years in research and professional development, is retiring.
Committee members offered congratulations. Senator Smitherman said the Senate and House would prepare a resolution honoring the retiree. With no further business the committee adjourned.
