Moraga Town Council voted to accept as complete a storm‑drain and culvert rehabilitation on Augusta Drive, authorize the town manager to sign a notice of completion, and direct staff to finalize documentation.
Acting public works staff described why the work was urgent: condition‑assessment video revealed a hole in an existing concrete pipe near the country club entrance and tennis courts, and crews removed traffic, excavated, installed HDPE pipe and a concrete cap over the shallow segment. "We videotape the storm drains first. You don't want to put a brand new street under bad pipes," the presenter said, describing the nondestructive inspections and subsequent repairs.
Staff said the catch basin at one location appears to have been constructed as part of an earlier town project and that maintenance staff had been repeatedly pumping the basin. The town will add the newly discovered and repaired assets to its storm‑drain GIS layer and has an open agreement with Harrison Associates to update shape files used for mapping.
Council members asked whether the town is documenting findings for posterity, and staff responded that the GIS layer exists but needs updating; staff will continue to populate the system with the culvert data. After public comment and council questions, the council moved to accept the project and recorded the motion as approved.
The town manager and public works staff said the repairs will reduce maintenance calls at the location and relieve local property owners and public‑works crews of repeated pumping and temporary fixes.
